    Toby Rakison

    PRESIDENT

Rugby has been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember. Originally from London, I’ve been fortunate to play the game all over the world.

For me, TRC is more than just a club — it’s family. I’ve been coaching here for several years, and my son and daughter have grown up in the game, playing in both the touch and contact sections for nearly a decade. That sense of family and community is what truly drives the club.

My mantra is simple: “Leave the jersey in a better place.” I focus on strengthening the bonds between players, parents, and supporters, ensuring Tanglin remains not just a rugby club, but a true community.

With our move to Carlisle Road and the excitement of a brand-new pitch and clubhouse, I’m looking ahead to what’s next. Building on 20 proud years of history, my goal is to grow the game, nurture the next generation, and ensure every member feels part of something truly special.

    Gareth Lang

    HONORARY SECRETARY

I joined TRC in January 2022 and what began as watching my eldest son play quickly grew into a passion for coaching and supporting the club. My youngest has since joined and we’re now a TRC family. I’ve coached from U5 through U8, earning my World Rugby Level 1 qualification, and have also served as Head Coach for U7 and U8.

I am proud of TRC’s values and that was a big draw to join the Club and volunteer as Club Secretary. I am passionate about promoting teamwork, respect and commitment, and aim to see that reflected through our leaders, coaches, parents and players. My coaching philosophy is simple: make rugby fun, safe, and inclusive while helping every child develop skills, confidence, and friendships.

    DIRECTOR OF RUGBY

Rugby has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember, be it as a player, a supporter or as a coach. I have been fortunate to play in different countries around the world, and I believe that Rugby is unique in its ability to provide camaraderie and inclusiveness like no other sport. It is universal in its shared values of teamwork, humility, effort and respect.

At TRC we strive to create a supportive environment where positive and competitive rugby can be played and enjoyed by boys and girls of all ages.

Whilst player welfare is always our priority, we strive for excellence on the pitch starting with support and education for all our coaches, almost all of whom are volunteers, and without whom we could not function as a club, or be able to create and maintain the community that we have.

Not only do we have a strong focus on core skills and game management, but we nurture our players to understand that we are a club that has discipline and respect for each other on and off the pitch. We are all representing each other, and our behaviour reflects this.

    HEAD OF JUNIOR RUGBY

I have been passionate about rugby since childhood and continued playing into my early 20s. Like many at TRC, I was drawn to the sport’s physicality, the camaraderie, and the importance of teamwork. TRC is a club powered by dedicated volunteers and parents who share a love for the game and a desire to pass that passion on to the next generation.

My involvement with TRC was inspired by this community spirit and my desire for my children to experience the sport’s values. We are committed to developing talented young players who enjoy the game, strive to compete at a high level, forge lifelong friendships, and maybe even bring home some silverware along the way!

    HEAD OF GIRLS CONTACT RUGBY

Like most of the coaches at TRC coaching is a passion and I view Sunday mornings on the pitches, coaching the 2009 age group, as one of life’s little pleasures.

I’ve been a TRC parent/coach for 7 years now and have enjoyed every minute. We strive to build the confidence of all the players and design our sessions so everyone has an enjoyable time at training, in competitions and on tour, as well as making great friends along the way. The goal is to pass my passion for the sport on to the players so they continue playing and enjoying rugby for years to come. We’ve had so many challenges over the last few years and it’s a real reward when the players keep coming back for more … recently I asked one of the players why? he said that rugby is just “Too good”. I couldn’t have said it better myself. I continue to play when I can even now, for the same reason .. It’s just too good!

    HEAD OF TOUCH RUGBY

I first started playing touch as a year 9 high school student in Wagga Wagga, Australia and have enjoyed playing touch since then. My wife and I first arrived in Singapore in 2010 and I have taken part in the Singapore Touch scene for the last ten years or so, mostly with Bucks Touch and more recently with some hit outs for the TRC Mums and Dads squad.

My Daughter (and I) became a part of TRC in 2019 when she joined in with the U10s touch squad and I was thrilled to see her take part in a team sport and be part of a club like TRC. After her trial lessons I was quick to put my hand up to assist with coaching, ultimately moving into a Head Coach Role and then Co-Head of Touch. In that time I have loved expanding my knowledge of the game and coaching approaches and seeing our amazing players grow and develop in their love for sport and touch in particular.

I feel fortunate to be a part of TRC and to have the opportunity to contribute to the sporting community that our kids benefit so much from. I am passionate about creating an inclusive environment for all the touch players to find a space and meet with success in sport.

    MEMBERSHIPS & OPERATIONS

I was introduced to TRC in 2017 by friends and my Sunday mornings have never been the same since then!

It’s been quite an adventure from casually sipping coffee on the sideline, proudly watching my 2 boys start their rugby journey to now helping the club as director of junior rugby, and recently as Tournament Organiser for our TRC Junior Cup. I got involved in coaching U5 for a couple of years, where I qualified as a World Rugby Level 1 (IRB) coach, and then moved up the age groups until I took on the head coach role during the U7 year, and then again for U8 and U9.

Rugby has always been very important in my life, as a spectator for as long as I can remember, as a player in France, Singapore, and then as a TRC parent/coach, to the point where I even resumed playing as a veteran… I just love the fact that it’s now a family affair.

I’m proud of the TRC ethos, promoting values of teamwork, respect & commitment. We’re making sure that kids, at any point of time, on and off the pitch, are having fun while being safe & inclusive, and my coaching philosophy relies on player development for all abilities, giving everyone a chance to play, improve, be confident and competitive while thriving with teammates that become friends.
